Lake Placid is a village of about 2,200 people that has hosted the Winter Games twice, in 1932 and 1980, and still looks like it could do it again next week. Main Street runs along Mirror Lake, where locals skate a plowed oval in January and swim the two-mile loop in July. Whiteface Mountain fills the sky to the north, the ski jumps stand over the valley like a pair of skyscrapers, and the Adirondack High Peaks, all 46 of them, start a few miles out of town at the Cascade Lakes.

Our Lake Placid collection is drawn for people who know the difference between Mirror Lake and the lake the town is named after. The crewneck sweatshirt wears a snowflake-over-High-Peaks badge in Adirondack navy, snow white and a stripe of hockey red, with the 1900 village year worked into the arc. The tee goes lighter, a clean LAKE PLACID wordmark made for a bobsled-run visit or a diner breakfast before Marcy. The mug is for the cabin woodstove. The sticker goes on the ski box.

Everything is original artwork, printed to order in the USA and shipped quickly. It is for the people who live in the Adirondacks all year, the 46ers working on their list, the families who come every February for the ice, and anyone who has stood in a cold arena here and felt the ghosts of 1980.

Why we love Lake Placid

  • ✦Mirror Lake freezes into a free skating oval right off Main Street
  • ✦Whiteface has the biggest vertical drop in the East at 3,430 feet
  • ✦The 46 High Peaks start a ten-minute drive from the village
  • ✦Two Winter Games in one tiny village, and the venues still run

Best time to go: February for the frozen Mirror Lake oval and the ice; mid-September for High Peaks hiking in early color.

Lake Placid apparel FAQ

Is this official Winter Games or ORDA merchandise?+

No. Our Lake Placid designs are original artwork by independent artists. We are not affiliated with the Olympic committee, ORDA, Whiteface, the village or any venue, and we never use protected Games marks.

Is the Lake Placid crewneck warm enough for the Mirror Lake oval?+

On its own it is a midweight fleece for a cabin or a diner; for skating in February you will want it under a shell. The brushed cotton-poly interior traps heat well and dries quickly after a snowy walk back to Main Street.

Can you ship to the Adirondacks before a ski weekend?+

Usually yes if you order by Monday. Orders print in 2 to 5 business days, then ship with tracking; standard delivery to the North Country adds 2 to 4 days. Expedited options show at checkout.
