Burlington, Vermont

Burlington is the Queen City of Vermont, a lakeside college town of about 45,000 that punches far above its size. Church Street Marketplace is a four-block brick pedestrian mall that has been the town's living room since 1981. Down the hill, Waterfront Park opens onto Lake Champlain with the Adirondacks across the water, and the sunsets there are the reason half the town shows up every evening with a cone. The Island Line Trail runs north along the shore and out onto a causeway that puts you in the middle of the lake on a bike. Battery Park, North Beach, Oakledge and the Intervale fill in the rest.
