Zion is the canyon you walk through rather than look down into. The Virgin River has cut a slot two thousand feet deep through Navajo sandstone, and the road and the trails run along the bottom of it, so the walls rise straight up on both sides in bands of red, pink and cream. Hikers clip into the chains on Angels Landing, wade the river through the Narrows with a walking stick, and cool off at the Emerald Pools under the dripping hanging gardens. Desert bighorn sheep pick their way across the ledges, cottonwoods go gold in October, and the first light on the Court of the Patriarchs is the reason the shuttle is full at six in the morning.
Our Zion collection starts with a hand-engraved view up the canyon: the river winding between the walls, cottonwoods on the banks, a bighorn on a ledge and the fin of Angels Landing in the distance. More scenes are coming for the Narrows, Checkerboard Mesa and the Kolob Canyons.
