Taos, New Mexico

Taos sits on a sagebrush mesa at 7,000 feet with a mountain behind it that locals talk about as if it had opinions. The saying goes that Taos Mountain either lets you stay or sends you packing, and most locals have a story about which one happened to them. West of town the mesa splits open at the Rio Grande Gorge, 650 feet straight down, with a steel bridge across it that hums in the wind. Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico, stands northeast. The Plaza has been the center of town since the early 1600s, the adobe church at Ranchos de Taos is the most painted building in the Southwest, and the Enchanted Circle loops 84 miles through the high country around it.

Our Taos collection is drawn from a late-September afternoon on the mesa. The crewneck carries Taos Mountain in three earth tones with a line of cottonwoods and a thin gorge cut across the foreground, in adobe brown, cream and gorge-water teal, the town name set in a hand-lettered serif. The tee is lighter, Taos over the 1615 line with a single peak, made for the Gorge Bridge at sunset and a green chile stew on the Plaza after. The mug and sticker share the mountain artwork.
