The Grand Canyon is the one place on Earth that is bigger than its photographs. A mile deep, up to eighteen miles across and two hundred seventy-seven river miles long, it opens up without warning at the South Rim, where the first look from Mather Point tends to make people stop talking. The Colorado River is a green thread at the bottom, the rock layers count back almost two billion years, and California condors with nine-foot wingspans drift over the rim on the afternoon thermals. Hikers drop down the Bright Angel Trail to Phantom Ranch; everyone else watches the light move across the buttes from Hopi Point until the sun goes down.
Our Grand Canyon collection starts with a hand-engraved South Rim sunrise: the layered mesas receding into the haze, the river far below in the inner gorge, a condor soaring and a wind-bent juniper on the ledge. More scenes are coming for the Desert View Watchtower, the mule trains and the North Rim.
